BAPTISMAL VOWS

“You are sealed by the Holy Spirit in baptism and marked as Christ’s own forever”

(Ephesians 1:13)

How to be baptized at St. Barnabas

Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body the Church. Anyone at any age can be baptized, however, since babies and young children are not old enough to make a mature profession of faith, their parents or sponsors (godparents), “guarantee that the infants will be brought up within the Church, to know Christ and be able to follow him.” (BCP, pp. 858-859)

Please let the office know if you are interested in receiving the sacrament of Baptism.

Anyone acting as a sponsor for the child, parent or otherwise, must be baptized as well.
The rector will work with the family in regard to necessary preparation and instruction prior to the ceremony.

Baptisms take place during Sunday worship. The specific days in the church year on which Baptism is most appropriate are:

Jesus’ Baptism – usually the second Sunday of January
The Easter Vigil – the evening before Easter Sunday
Easter Day
The Day of Pentecost – 50 days after Easter
The Sunday after All Saints’ Day (November 1)

However allowances can be made to allow for family needs. Baptisms, unless it is an emergency, will not take place during the season of Lent (around mid-February to mid-April).
