MAUNDY THURSDAY AGAPE MEAL
APRIL 17, 2025 6:00-7:15 PM
HUBBARD HALL
Followed by Maundy Thursday Service
An Agape meal is a simple, often meatless, meal meant to foster community and goodwill, traditionally including bread, wine, and other simple foods like cheese, olives, and fruits.
The Agape meal, also known as a "love feast," is a practice rooted in early Christian gatherings, intended to encourage harmony, community, and goodwill. In the context of early Christianity, it was a communal meal where believers gathered to share food and foster fellowship, reflecting the meals Jesus shared with his disciples. The practice of agape meals is rooted in the early church's emphasis on community and shared experiences, as seen in Acts 2:46-47 and 1 Corinthians 11:17-34. These meals were not just about eating; they were a time for Christians to strengthen their bonds, share their lives, and build each other up in faith. So let us consider the meaning of our time together sharing the Agape Meal and prepare ourselves for the traditional Liturgy of the Maundy Thursday Eucharistic Feast.

If you're interested in donating a food item for the event, the sign-up sheet can be found in Hubbard Hall

2025 Diocese of New Jersey online Anti-Racism Training programs:

The Anti-Racism Commission (ARC) of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey announces that registration is now open for the Spring Session of its 20-hour online Anti-Racism Training. (HERE or use the QR Code or Registration button below!)  The training consists of five consecutive two-hour classes on Zoom, a self-study program in between the five weekly Zoom meetings, and a follow-up session four weeks later. The session costs $100 per person. Scholarships are available based on financial need.

This Spring, the classes will be held on Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
The class schedule is: May 6, May 13, May 20, May 27, June 3, and July 1.

Participants who attend all classes and submit all assignments will earn a Certificate of Completion from the Diocese of New Jersey.

If the Spring Anti-Racism session doesn’t fit your schedule, ARC is holding the final 2025 session in September on Friday evenings from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Those dates are September 12, 19, 26, October 3, 10, November 7.   In addition, an Anti-Racism Training session that is conducted entirely in Spanish and is modified to be culturally sensitive to the experiences of Spanish-speaking communities will be held in-person on September 20.  Details about the Spanish-language training will be available shortly.

All lay and clergy who hold elected positions on commissions, committees and other bodies of the Diocese of New Jersey must take the training and are encouraged to re-take it at least every three years.. This includes members of the Standing Committee, Diocesan Council, Commission on Clerical Compensation, Committee on Constitution and Canons, Finance and Budget, and other elected bodies. In addition, all clergy new to the Diocese are required to take Anti-Racism within 12 months of their calling.

For more information, contact Canon Karen Oliver Moore.  The Anti-Racism Commission is a group of dedicated anti-racists who are working to help dismantle systemic racism, inequality, and injustice in our church and in our society.
